On 12 June 2018, more than 100 migrants were facing problems as their  rubber boat collapsed at the sea. Long before the rubber boat collapsed  witnesses mentioned that they saw an American military ship (supposedly the US Navy Trenton) was passing through the Mediterranean Sea, near the migrants’ boat. However, the military ship did not carry out the rescue operation.

After the rubber boat collapsed and the migrants were drowning, the military ship approached the remaining migrants and proceed with the rescue. In spite of this, due to the late reaction from the American military ship, 76 people died.
